Audio intercom system for use in civil defence vehicles

vehicles for disaster control, CBRN reconnaissance vehicles, crew vehicles for public services and institutions, etc.

The development goal was an intercom system for mutual communication between the crew of the above-mentioned vehicles.

The system should be designed for a crew of at least four people with the option of up to 12 people. Listening and speaking should be done with a headphone-microphone combination (headset). Headsets should be equipped with a foldable microphone boom and be disinfectable.

For plug-in operation of the headsets, small stations with volume control and switches for momentary and continuous speech were to be used. No other controls were desired in order to prevent operating errors. The stations were to be connected by cables. All persons should be able to hear and speak at the same time.

No audible latency between transmission and direct communication was desired.

It should be possible to connect the wired intercom system to an MRT radio system (an MRT radio system (Mobile Radio Terminal) is a radio device installed in vehicles used by emergency services such as the fire brigade, police and rescue services. It enables communication via the BOS digital radio network, both voice and data. MRTs are wirelessly connected to the network and must be certified for operation to ensure the security of digital radio.) and the signal of the radio system must be volume-controlled.

The system should be optimised for installation and operation in motor vehicles. It should operate reliably between 10 and 15 V on-board voltage.
